In the Groove

I did it....I've pieced curves!!!  It was not nearly as hard as I anticipated, and I think they look pretty good.

I used the Groove Quilt Pattern by Carolina Patchworks.  I discovered the pattern after reading about Pile O' Fabric's Quilt Along over the summer.  I bought the pattern at the beginning of the QAL, but never started.  The curves looked intimidating.

I pulled the pattern out last week and decided to have a go at it....New Year's resolution or something.  The curves weren't bad at all.  The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the templates for the curves.  I don't really like cutting out things by hand as they don't produce perfect squares.  I have a ruler for circles somewhere....but I couldn't find it.  Maybe that would have helped?

Now I just need to figure out how to quilt it....I was thinking something simple (like lines) so the main focus is the design and not the quilting.  Any suggestions?

  1. WOW!!! that looks fantastic!!! your curves are amazing! i actually didn't realize this was a quilt when i first saw the pic, i thought it was a printed fabric. i really love the design. i think lines for quilting would be nice. It would be difficult and probably distracting to follow the design. simple is definitely better. i kinda really want to try some curves now!

  2. Great job, Kenda, the curves look perfect! And yes, I think anything more than lines would be a distraction. Keep challenging youself cause am sure you will continue to succeed!! Next is paper peicing!? ;-)

  3. Great going, Kenda! I love blue and green together. I've entered a curved seams challenge this month, so I'll have to learn how, too....

  4. I agree with your first commenter, I totally thought it was just a solid piece of fabric. Good for you! This is on my list of things to learn this year... but we'll see when it happens.

  5. Is each color a different piece of fabric? If so, WOW, very impressive.
